From the early 1920s, the farm, which is named “Schurwedraai Skool”, was established as a school for kids who travelled from neighbouring farms far and wide.

In more recent years, not long after the Van Der Merwe family purchased the land in 1995, plans were drawn up to establish a pecan nut orchard on the existing 33-hectare land, which is the ideal location to farm with Pecan Nuts. The family commenced planting in 1997.

The Nutcracker Country Venue was established in May 2010 and has hosted over 450 weddings since then. We are known for creating fond memories, catering fantastic food and providing the ideal backdrop for an incredible wedding celebration.
